MINUTES OF MEETING

Bill Haggerty called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. 21 members were present. Bill introduced our guest speaker, Edward Pagan, Esquire, of Pagan Affiliates LLC, located in Lambertville, New Jersey.

GUEST SPEAKER
Ed Pagan reflected upon his extensive legal experience to tell us about the surveyor’s right of entry upon property of others while performing a land survey. He referenced his talk to N.J. Statute 45:8-44.1 and provided copies for everyone.

Ed filled his talk with interesting anecdotes and stories based upon his experience of many years. These stories kept his audience attentive and interested. He spoke about our making a reasonable attempt to notify the owner of our need to enter the property and problems related thereto. He spoke about time delays, all of which may prevent our survey’s completion.

He explained the difference between “trespass” and “right of entry” in legal definition. We surveyors never trespass, we always do things properly. The permission of the owner should always be obtained. In most instances, courtesy will yield agreement by the owner. Occasionally the surveyor meets opposition and delay may be required to pursue legal methods.

Ed Pagan closed his very interesting presentation by fielding some questions and comments from the audience. Bill Haggerty thanked Ed for a very interesting presentation.

BUSINESS MEETING
At 8:45 PM Bill Haggerty called the Business Meeting to Order.

Minutes of the previous meeting held on October 13, 2011 were approved as published on our web site.

Pete Burgess, Treasurer, was absent. However, he provided the following written report for the status of funds on October 31, 2011.

Bill Haggerty announced that President, Rick Sapio has informed him that the nominations of officers for the 2012 year are complete and each nominee has been contacted and is willing to serve, if elected.

NJSPLS REPORT
Chip Adamson reported on the last meeting of the NJSPLS which was held on Nov. 10, 2011. Chip provided a written report of the meeting, which along with the NJSPLS meeting minutes will be placed on our web-site for examination by all members.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The drawing for door prize was won by Al Ritchie, who contributed it to the Scholarship Fund.

Bill Haggerty announced that our next meeting will be on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Carlucci’s.

At 9:30 PM. it was moved to adjourn the meeting; seconded, and approved by voice vote.
