NOVEMBER 11, 2010
MINUTES OF MEETING
Carlucci’s Waterfront
876 Centerton Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054
President Rick Sapio called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. 11 members and 1 guest speaker were present. Rick welcomed all and indicated we would first have our guest speaker and association business would follow.
GUEST SPEAKER
President Rick introduced our guest speaker, David Sonner, CFM, Technical Representative from Smart Vent Inc. David spoke extensively about the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program.
With a slide show program he explained the need for openings in foundation walls to allow flood waters to pass through and thereby minimize damage to the structure. He explained in detail how the vents that they install will open to allow the water to pass and also close to prevent animals to gain entrance.
He explained the flood insurance rate and the dramatic drop in cost when properly installed vents are provided. He also mentioned that Sea Isle City was the first municipality requiring all building owners to comply with the FEMA regulations. Both the City and the property owners receive incentive payments from the Flood Insurance Company.
He provided as hand-out documents the following publications:
FEMA, Elevation Certificate and Instructions.
FEMA, Flood Damage- Resistant Materials Requirements.
FEMA, Openings in Foundation Walls and Walls of Enclosures.
Mr. Sonner closed with questions from the very interested membership. Several questions were centered on cost to install the vents on existing structures.
President Rick thanked him for a very informative presentation.

NJSPLS REPORT
Chip Adamson reported about the upcoming ServCon 2011, scheduled for February 2-4, 2011, at Bally’s Park Place Hotel in Atlantic City. Chip said that an applicant can save $25 by registering on-line. He also told us that all handout materials for workshops will be available on-line for easy access of all. This will save the society sizable printing costs.
Chip also said he has an upcoming meeting with Voorhees Township to discuss their title property survey ordinances. This is continuation of earlier discussions at our meetings.
Chip also reported that NJSPLS is offering a 4 hour educational program to assist our members with high school presentations and especially the upcoming Trig-Star Program. It is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 12 noon to 4 PM, at the Quality Inn on Route 37 in Toms River. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested, call Mark Husik at 800-853-5263 to RSVP.
He also reported that the NJSPLS is trying to define a “current survey”. Their discussion, reportedly, led to three or more definitions. More information on this topic will be available later. They are also investigating the legality of electronic signatures for surveying documents.
When the minutes of the NJSPLS Meeting are available they will be placed on our web-site for review by all members of the association.
