President Richard Sapio called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. 19 members and 3 guests were present.

GUEST SPEAKER
President Sapio introduced our guest speaker, Garrett Pollard of Creative Financial Group, Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Garrett introduced two of his associates who would assist him during the presentation, Ben Skupp and Jeff Miller.

They introduced their firm as a group of 350 employees which provides financial consultation to both Corporate and Individual clients.
For Corporate clients they spoke to the following four areas.

1. Operational Expense Reduction.
2. Risk Management / Benefits Consulting.
3. Corporate Education
4. Retirement Plan Consulting.

For Individual clients they spoke to the following four areas.

1. Wealth Transfer and Business Succession.
2. Wealth Management.
3. Individual Retirement Planning
4. Long Term Care / Disability

The three speakers divided up these eight areas and spoke in detail about each. They also took many questions from the members present. Most questions were related to the business of operating a surveying company during the recession which we are now experiencing. The membership appreciated the financial expertise which these three speakers brought to our meeting.

At 8:30 PM, President Sapio thanked our guests for their stimulating and timely presentation. He then called the meeting to order for transacting the business of the Association.

The minutes of the last Business Meeting, held on November 12, 2009 as posted on the web-site were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Pete Burgess, Treasurer, presented a partial report which he said he would complete and submit later.

NJSPLS DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Lou Marchuk and Bob Lee were absent from tonight’s meeting. We will look for the minutes provided by NJSPLS and post those minutes to our web-site.

President Rick reported that Pete Burgess has been designated our new “Director at Large” to NJSPLS.

Frank Lenik stated that our SAWJ has the largest representation on the NJSPLS Board. We possibly do not realize we have this “power position”.

Frank Lenik also reported that the Surveying Course at Gloucester County College came close to being cancelled due to inadequate enrollment. Evidently NJSPLS was asked to pay $1200 for phantom enrollments. Frank said it was passed, but there were some comments concerning; where are SAWJ’s recommendations?

OLD BUSINESS
Bill Haggerty reported about Continuing Education Approvals. Bill said that during 2009, four meetings were submitted to the State Board. Three were approved and one coarse no determination has been received. Certificates have been awarded.

NEW BUSINESS
Art Dodge won tonight’s 50-50 drawing. He contributed his winnings to the Scholarship Fund.

President Rick said that our next meeting will be on Thursday, February 11, 2010. .

At 9:30 PM. it was moved to adjourn the meeting; seconded, and approved by voice vote.

Allan Ritchie, Recording Secretary
